Name: Jeremy Stone
Statement: I have been a science teacher for 19 years and the head of a department which has been designated as outstanding in every inspection and review since 2002. I have been heavily involved in outreach work since 2006, especially with the development of The London Challenge scheme and my school’s role as a Leading Edge/Training School/ Teaching School. I was designated as a SLE in the first round of appointments, working on various projects including the London Schools for Excellence Fund at City Hall, and am now a SLE advocate. I am a subject network leader for Challenge Partners, most notably working on developing and implementing a subject specific review system and leading my own department in the first Challenge Partners subject review. I was part of the steering committee at the DfE and the science network committee at The Institute of Education as well as being involved in The National Science Learning Centre network, which is now becoming the Science Learning Partnerships. I have taken part in research both within my own school and for York University, looking at such diverse subjects as developing learning outcome centred schemes and developing independent thinkers at KS3. My latest role is supporting schools through the “Engine of Improvement” programme run by Challenge Partners.
