Minimum academic entry requirements for secondary applicants in 2017-18

  • A UK honours degree (2.2 or above) or equivalent overseas degree  verified by The National Recognition Information Centre for the UK (NARIC)
  • The degree must comprise a minimum  50% of modules in the subject area you wish to train to teach
  • A standard equivalent to a grade C in the GCSE examinations in English and mathematics
  • Applicants who do not have standard GCSE certificates will need to take an equivalence test
  • All entrants will need to have passed the professional skills tests in literacy and numeracy prior to beginning the programme

We are looking for applicants with a broad range of personal attributes, skills and experiences. Applicants must be able to:

  • Provide evidence of an interest in working with young people
  • Possess high quality communication skills
  • Speak fluently, clearly and grammatically
  • Be able to sequence their ideas appropriately
  • Be able to think analytically and make appropriate evaluations of issues
  • Possess appropriate personal qualities such as warmth, enthusiasm, capacity for hard work, self-motivation, and resilience.
