Challenge Partners

The Compton School acts as the hub leader for 20 schools within our local Challenge Partners network. The Headteacher, Teresa Tunnadine, is a Senior Partner on the board of Challenge Partners. All schools within our Challenge Partners network are strategic partners within The Compton-Barnet Teaching School Alliance

The principal aim of Challenge Partners is to work collaboratively to effect improvement in schools.

The organisation of Challenge Partners has grown considerably over the last few years and there are now in excess of 200 schools organised into cross-phase hubs across the country.

Schools in the partnership commit to:

•Student outcomes: Increase students’ performance in public examinations at a rate considerably higher than the national average

•Create more outstanding schools: Increase the number of Partner schools that are outstanding and meet the National Teaching School criteria

•School improvement: Improve the Partner schools’ Ofsted rating and National College school-to-school work designation at a considerably higher rate than the national average

•Promote a self-improving system through school-to-school activity: Develop internationally the concept of effective collaborative learning between schools and contributing to national research and policy making

Core Activities and Benefits
•Quality Assurance Review – an annual school review carried out by an Ofsted Inspector and senior leaders from schools in Challenge Partners.  Senior Leaders from schools in Challenge Partners can access training facilitated by HMI inspectors to be able to carry out reviews nationally
•Access to Teaching and Learning Programmes – Outstanding Teacher Programme and Improving Teacher Programme with a focus on raising the quality of teaching and learning
•Access to Challenge the Gap – A programme aimed at addressing the attainment gap between Pupil Premium students and their peers in English, Maths and EBacc subjects.  Schools work in triads with a range of staff to ensure a whole-school approach to delivery of the programme
•Access to and involvement in the Challenge Partners Subject Directory and Networks of Excellence.  These initiatives provide support for schools through accessing the Challenge Partner Subject Directory.  There also the opportunity for staff from schools in the partnership to be involved in driving forward subject developments in English, Maths, Science and EYFS at a national level
•Accreditation for staff with a proven record of support both within and outside of their own schools as Challenge Partner Subject Leaders (CPSLs)
