We are working closely with the Department for Education and LocatEd to find a suitable site for the new Compton Free school. LocatEd are the government’s appointed agency whose role is to find and procure suitable sites for Free schools. We are meeting with the DfE and LocatEd regularly and have looked at a number of sites within the borough of Barnet.

As the government is now in Purdah (a period of restrictions on government business)  before the general election, were  a site to be found, the decision to purchase could not be made by ministers until after the general election on 8 June.

6 MARCH 2017

The first two months of the year have been taken up with meetings or conference calls with the Department for Education as we try to find a suitable site for the Compton Free School. No site has been secured but we have a couple of sites that we are investigating further.

In the meantime, the Compton continues to grow. In mid February we opened of our new Sixth Form block providing a purpose built building for year 12 and 13 which includes touch screen plasmas in every classroom, a study centre with PCs and laptops and a new large IT suite

12 OCTOBER 2016

Our Executive Headteacher, Teresa Tunnadine attended a Free School launch event on October 12th. Nice to get feedback that the DfE were very impressed with our bid and that the DfE were particularly impressed with how many parents have supported our bid and are keeping in touch through email and twitter.

We are now in the midst of looking for suitable sites and at the moment are looking at a site on the N2/N3 borders in Finchley, a site in N3 and two possible sites in NW7, Mill Hill.

We have met with Barnet LA and next week will be visiting one of the sites to assess it's suitability.

Great news - our bid has been successful!

Today we heard from the DfE that our bid to open another Compton secondary school has been successful.

The level of support from parents at local primary schools and the local community has been fantastic with nearly 600 parents supporting our bid and we look forward to working with them and the local community as we move towards opening in 2018.

Over the coming months, the Compton School will be working alongside the DfE to secure a site and we hope to announce where the school will be located by December 2016. Once a site is secured we will then be hosting a series of public meetings for parents and residents interested in finding out more about the school.
