Ofsted Outstanding - March 2024

Posted on: 30/04/2024

We are absolutely delighted to share with you the outcome of our Ofsted Inspection which took place on the 5th and 6th March, 2024.

The overall judgement was that The Compton School continues to be Outstanding.

As many of you are aware, we have not had an Ofsted inspection since 2018, so this was a significant event for our school community! The Ofsted inspection was a rigorous and intensive process, which involved staff, students, governors and parent views. We had a team of three Inspectors, led by a senior HMI (His Majesty’s Inspector), in school for two full days.

The inspection team carried out ‘deep dive’ reviews in English, Science, History and Geography, which involved evaluating our academic curriculum, visiting lessons, reviewing students’ work and meeting with staff and students independently. They also visited lessons in all other subject areas to gather further evidence of the quality of education we provide.

Furthermore, the team looked in detail at how we support the personal development of our students, which included observing students in tutor time, social spaces and during lesson transitions. They also paid particular attention to the behaviour of students in lessons.

We are delighted that the team could evidence just how fantastic our students - your children are, and we have selected a few lines from the report to celebrate this with you:

Pupils enjoy attending The Compton School. They achieve exceptionally well here, regardless of their starting points.

Pupils, and students in the sixth form, appreciate being part of this school community. They are happy at school, feel safe and are kept safe.

Pupils behave well in lessons and when moving around the school site. Bullying is not tolerated here, and staff are vigilant. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming.

Teachers have high expectations for the work that pupils produce. Pupils meet these expectations with consistently high-quality work.

We are extremely pleased with the report. It captures so much of what we believe makes the school so successful and does not highlight any areas for improvement – this is highly unusual and a testament to the hard work and commitment of our whole school community.

The school has been providing an outstanding education for its students since 1992 – this is the fifth consecutive Outstanding grade that the school has received from Ofsted – there are only a handful of schools across the country in this position. However, whilst this does make us feel extremely proud, we want to reassure you of our unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest quality of education, care and opportunity for every child at The Compton School.

We will be sharing highlights of the report with students over the coming weeks and finding a way to celebrate with them.
