What you will Study

Trainees receive a comprehensive, coherent and well sequenced curriculum across the training year. Trainees follow The Compton SCITT’s Golden Threads as they build their knowledge and understanding of generic and subject specific content, leading to the award of QTS.

They have a SCITT Subject Lead who supports their subject knowledge development across the year, who apply the ‘subject lens’ to the generic content and focus on key themes and concepts within their subject discipline.

Course Summary

Trainees benefit from four Intensive Training and Practice (ITaP) weeks based at The Compton School and ITaP schools. These weeks focus on core, foundational aspects of teaching and allow trainees to observe lessons, deconstruct what they observed before rehearsing their teaching with expert colleagues and fellow trainees.

They may opt to follow a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE Non-QTS) with The University of Sussex. This course complements The Compton SCITT’s curriculum and is optional for trainees.

Trainees are assessed throughout the training year against The Compton SCITT’s central curriculum.  Trainees have many ways to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding, through lesson observations, reflection pieces, professional learning conversations and lesson rehearsals. SCITT leaders understand that trainees progress at different speeds and support trainees to make steady progress.
